USB Data Recovery – The best plan is a Data Loss Prevention Plan
November 18, 2009 – 8:39 pmWe love all the things in life that make our life easier, in the computer world USB devices of any kind, especially data storage devices like USB keys, USB pens and USB Hard Drives come to mind as the most frequently used. They make our life easier by easily being able to save or transfer files for private use or even sensitive work files.
Over time we are going to lose data from accidentally deleting files, or the USB device is damaged, or the file structure on the device are corrupted maybe from viruses, in any of these scenarios we would rather prevent the data loss than to have to revert to a data recovery plan.
- Keep data on at least 3 different devices. Whether these are on computers, external Hard Drives, USB devices, just anywhere data can be stored and retrieved. If you only have the data on your USB key and it is corrupted then we will have to go to a data recovery mode.
- Update your stored data often. If you save drivers on your USB device for example for software or hardware on a computer, you will need the ones applicable to that computer or server.
- Keep your devices clean and in a cool area away from direct sunlight. In your room where you use your computer if there is a window where the sun shines in or even the trunk of your car gets pretty hot.
- Probably when you travel is the biggest time that you will need a USB Storage device, it is easy to damage a device not stored in a good place.
- Like any other storage device that you use be sure to protect against viruses using a reputable virus software program. Get updates regularly to keep your USB storage device protected against file corruption.
- Be sure to (safely remove the device from the computer when you disconnecting your USB storage device or any USB device for that matter. Also most USB keys have either a protective cap or slide open or have some other way of protecting the insertion part of the key. Be sure to use it!
These are just some easy things that can be done to prevent having to finding free data recovery software, purchasing software, or even using a data recovery services however, there are going to be times that these things are needed because of the many way that data can be lossed as discussed in this article.
