ioSafe Solo 1 TB Fireproof and Waterproof External Hard Drive with 1 Year Data Recovery Service SL1000GBUSB20 (Silver)The rugged desktop ioSafe Solo external hard drive brings disaster protection to a price range that everyone can afford. With capacities from 500GB to 1.5TB, the ioSafe Solo can safely protect precious family photo albums, music libraries and days of video memories. For business, the ioSafe Solo is a great way to protect customer databases or to secure regulated information including patient records (HIPAA, Sox, etc) or credit card information. Businesses use the Solo hard drive as a backup and storage device, no longer worrying about data loss from moving computer tapes and files offsite. Like other ioSafe products, the ioSafe Solo uses ioSafe patented technology including FloSafe air flow cooling, HydroSafe waterproof barriers and the DataCast fireproof insulation.

Fireproof Data Storage Design

The Achilles heel for electronic devices is cooling. As electronics get faster and hard drive disks spin faster, the heat generated increases. To protect electronics from a disaster such as fire, however, you need insulation. Once insulation is placed around an electronic component, even with a very small amount of energy, the inside temperature can get incredibly hot. To solve this problem, ioSafe developed and patented several technologies.
All ioSafe products are fireproof and can keep your data safe through the use of ioSafe’s patented FloSafe vent technology, proprietary DataCast insulation or patent-pending MirrorGuard technology. Key to these technologies is the ability to protect your data automatically and without electrical power. Some or all of these technologies are included in ioSafe products.

USB Data Recovery – The best plan is a Data Loss Prevention Plan

We love all the things in life that make our life easier, in the computer world USB devices of any kind, especially data storage devices like USB keys, USB pens and USB Hard Drives come to mind as the most frequently used. They make our life easier by easily being able to save or transfer files for private use or even sensitive work files.

USB Data RecoveryOver time we are going to lose data from accidentally deleting files, or the USB device is damaged, or the file structure on the device are corrupted maybe from viruses, in any of these scenarios we would rather prevent the data loss than to have to revert to a data recovery plan.

  • Keep data on at least 3 different devices. Whether these are on computers, external Hard Drives, USB devices, just anywhere data can be stored and retrieved. If you only have the data on your USB key and it is corrupted then we will have to go to a data recovery mode.
  • Update your stored data often. If you save drivers on your USB device for example for software or hardware on a computer, you will need the ones applicable to that computer or server.
  • Keep your devices clean and in a cool area away from direct sunlight. In your room where you use your computer if there is a window where the sun shines in or even the trunk of your car gets pretty hot.
  • Probably when you travel is the biggest time that you will need a USB Storage device, it is easy to damage a device not stored in a good place.
  • Like any other storage device that you use be sure to protect against viruses using a reputable virus software program. Get updates regularly to keep your USB storage device protected against file corruption.
  • Be sure to (safely remove the device from the computer when you disconnecting your USB storage device or any USB device for that matter. Also most USB keys have either a protective cap or slide open or have some other way of protecting the insertion part of the key. Be sure to use it!

These are just some easy things that can be done to prevent having to finding free data recovery software, purchasing software, or even using a data recovery services however, there are going to be times that these things are needed because of the many way that data can be lossed as discussed in this article.

First Understanding how USB Data Recovery Works

November 18, 2009 – 8:38 pm

Most people use some sort of USB data storage device. They are very easy to use and the cost has gone down over the past few years to make it very convenient to use this as a backup solution for your important photos, video, txt, music, and so forth on small USB device. These devices range from USB keys to USB pen do even USB External Hard Drives and your important files can be accessed just by using the USB port of any computer. An example that I have used over the years in my various jobs installing servers is when I needed a driver for a certain device, I would copy it onto my USB key and then plug it into each server for easy use. (If network access was not up yet of course)

  • Unfortunately USB devices can and will break at some point, you might delete or misplace files, or the files might get corrupted in some way.
  • The good news is that there are ways to recover and restore your data stored on your USB device, but the best way is to have a Data Recovery plan.

USB Flash Drive

If you do not have a good plan for backing up your data and you lose it for any reason, one of your options is free recovery software or pay for inexpensive software. Remember though, you probably get what you pay for.

The way this software works is simple; it scans the device and lists the files that are recoverable. Hopefully the ones that you are looking for are on that list. You can then restore to your Hard Drive your even the USB device. I personally restore to the HD then make sure the USB device is working.

Another option is a USB Data Recovery service; you may need to go this route if software is not working for you.

Services available might include:

  • Specialized Knowledge of Restoring data
  • Expertise
  • Tools not available in normal circumstances
  • These services also include repairing your USB device and not only restoring the data

This site is all about making a plan for backup, not losing your data, and thus not having to use USB data recovery software or services.
